MASTER BEDROOM MAKEOVER

This is week 5 of the One Room Challenge. I am so grateful to be a guest participant on the bi-annual One Room Challenge. Each year 20 design influencers are invited to participate and blog about their room makeover. Read their blogs here As a designer it is easy to register as a guest participant, but it is a lot of work to pull it off in 6 weeks. The challenges are even greater this year since the delivery times on furniture and fabric has been extended due to the pandemic. This year featured designers are doing virtual rooms in conjunction with High Point Market. Better homes and Gardens is the media sponsor

I am working on pulling my room together. This week a lot of things happened. All the craziness of changing beds in 3 bedrooms. Making over one room created an avalanche of changes in this house. We moved our bed (a queen size) into our son’s room and then switched that mattress with the one in the guest room. Then we moved the mattress from the Master bedroom into our guest room. Sounds pretty simple, right. Haha! Nothing is simple here. The bed was, of course, taken apart and when we tried to put it together a few screws were stripped. We could also not adjust some of the brackets. Many choice words were spoken.

Here is a picture of what my boys did when they moved the mattress and box springs upstairs. I have a gallery wall going up the stairs and I promise those pictures were all straight before.

The floor

The floor was installed this week. My handyman installed it and by far the hardest part was figuring out the instructions and understanding where to start. The floor is a herringbone Luxury Vinyl Plank. I had originally decided to install a tile floor but in the end we decided that we would rather have a floor that is softer on the feet. The product we used is made by Core-Tec. I have used this flooring in many different styles and patterns in many of the beach houses for which I specified finishes or remodeled. It is is a very durable and beautiful product. Core-Tec floors are both waterproof and Greenguard Gold certified. This means that the product does not give off dangerous gases. I have somehow managed to keep our bedroom eco friendly for us

The bed

The floor was not finished when the bed was delivered. At first I wanted to not have the bed placed in the room but then I decided it would be a pain for us to put it together. Then I worried that the headboard would not make it through the door since it is 7ft tall.

Yes yes! I am obsessed with our new bed. It was put in the middle of our bedroom floor since the floor is taking longer than planned. I am also just obsessed with the Kristin Drohan Collection. Kristin Drohan has sped up the process of manufacturing my bed because of this One Room Challenge

Kristin Drohan Collection

Like I said above, I am obsessed with my new beautiful Denise bed from the Kristin Drohan collection. I chose this bed because it was beautiful, of course, I could customize it and it was easy to get my own fabric for the upholstery. Timing was an issue for me. Kristin Drohan is an Interior Designer and an expert on environmentally safe furnishings. She manufactures unique and stylish sustainable furnishings. The furniture is manufactured in North Carolina. The company sells sofas, sectionals, beds, benches, ottomans, banquettes, tables and chairs. The furniture is made using hypoallergenic construction and natural, flame retardant-free materials. Customers even have the option to select pieces composed of reused wood from abandoned furniture and textile factories. If you are a Designer, Kristin Drohan Collection has a generous program to the trade. As a designer it is possible to have items white glove drop shipped for remote or e-designer. This means that the item will be shipped from North Carolina to the client’s home and installed in place. Kristin Drohan makes it easy for designers to order a product as it is shown with no additional charge for details. Items ordered with details as pictured sells like its shown extra mark ups for those details. She sells fabric and leather as one grade so that there are no unexpected markups. All cushions are standard luxury spring down cushion so no upgrades required. Apartment Therapy, a leading industry blog, uses the term “gorgeous and green” to describe the furniture in the Kristin Drohan Collection. Says the editor in chief of New England Home : Drohan Collection pieces “most emphatically don’t exude that oh-so-green, nutty-crunching feeling. Low impact but high style is the order of the day.”Customers rave about the fact that the furniture is both “glamorous” and “built with a profound respect for the environment,” that it features “timeless elegance of design fabrics and detailing” and is “made in America from sustainably harvested and reclaimed wood.”The Kristin Drohan Collection has been featured in numerous national trade publications, including Modern Luxury, House Beautiful, Luxe, New England Home, HousetrendsRetailerNOW, and New York Spaces, as well as in The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal and HGTV.Kristin Drohan wants her designs to have longevity and sustainability and be allergy-free and current,” Kristin points out. She knows that luxury construction will last decades, so the style needs to as well.

Almost done.

The end is in sight. Next week will be the final reveal. See you then!
