This was the first time I participated as a guest in the One Room Challenge and I am very happy with the outcome. I love spending early mornings on my porch now and seeing what critters come to my yard. I have seen bees, hummingbirds, cardinals and butterflies enjoy the flowerbeds.

Thank you to Linda Weinstein of One Room Challenge for the opportunity and thanks to Better Homes and Gardens for being the media sponsor. And of course I can never thank Seasonal Living and Beyondfloors.net and Bati Orient enough!! Also a special thank you to Starfine Furniture

Another moment of gratitude

Three months ago I met Laura and Johnny Flora of Beyondfloors.net. I was looking for a new contractor to help me with a beach house remodel. Leslie Carothers of Savour Partnership recommended them to me. The first time I went to their store to select finishes I asked Laura if she had an inexpensive cement tile that I could use for my porch.

If you read my first blog, you will know that I was going to stencil the porch at first. I was quickly rethinking that as it was so labor intensive. Laura immediately offered to sponsor me along with one of her suppliers. Within a week or two she had six companies that she does business with, offer me tiles. I loved the cement tile from Bati Orient which also happens to have a warehouse in Houston. The tiles were in stock and my tile crew could pick it up.

Beyondfloors.net is family owned business in Webster Texas. Don’t be fooled by the size of the store. Laura knows what she has and has great feel for what her customers want. They have as many or more suppliers than some of the big designer friendly stores I have been to. There is also nothing like the customer service they offer their clients, both designers and consumers. I am forever grateful to Laura for the beautiful back porch I have now. There truly is nothing like having local support.

I am also very grateful to my tile crew.

My yard

I accomplished what I wanted to do with my yard. The garden is organic and a place for butterflies, birds and bees. Most of the plants are native . Some are evergreen and many are perennials. I added a water fountain as I find that soothing and my dog has figured out a way to always have water for the short periods of time she goes outside.

Before…

If you would like to see what my yard looked like before and how it has progressed then please read my previous blogs.
